Pausing to look at the road ahead, she could see her home in the distance. Smoke curled from fires over which women bent while children danced at their heels. This was the place where she’d been born, just as her mother had and her mother before her. For generations they’d lived and died this way, creating meals and caring for children, ensuring the tribe’s life. Breathing deeply, she knew it was where she belonged, that place called home, where her past was shaping and her future anchored.
